You’ll see it in the hallways and public spaces as well.”Īs the hotel’s art reflects the life of the neighborhood, Quinones, a native of the Lower East Side who began painting subway cars in the ’70s and ’80s, wields the spray can with imaginative skill and a contemplative nature. “The art is woven throughout the entire hotel and, even when you come into the lobby, you’ll see on the ceiling there is an original piece by the artist, who came and painted it. We partnered with him to come in and design some of the work within the hotel,” said Moskal. He was one of the more well-known artists from the Lower East Side during the ’70s and ’80s, including the work that he did from a graffiti standpoint in that neighborhood.
